Star Cricket 15-year-old dismisses ex-England man: A CRICKETING prodigy celebrated being called up to an England choice camp by dismissing a former Test batsman for his club. Robin Collins will go head-to-head with dozens of other young hopefuls at the England Schools Cricket Association U15 festival in Monmouth next week. Not several of those taking part will be able to say they have lately clean bowled an England external however - which is precisely what the 15-year-old did while acting for High Wycombe on Sunday. Needing 2 late wickets to wrap up a cup victory versus Cardiff the leg spinner was brought into the attack and dismissed Matthew Maynard, who made 4 Test appearances for England in the late 1980s and early 1990s? The Penn youngster later took the last wicket as Wycombe progressed to the next round of the National Knockout Cup with a 155-run victory. Wycombe’s director of cricket Keith Newell said: “He came on at the end and got the prize scalp of Matthew Maynard. He was trying to hit him out the ground at the time. He is done very well this year. He’s been a good cricketer since I have been here and he is getting some just rewards. He’s a massive prospect for us as a club. He is got the potential to play county level, perhaps even further. At fifteen you never know how things will develop. There’s a long way to go regarding fulfilling his potential but he’s doing the right things at the moment. He’s got himself involved with a good club and put himself in the right environment. He’s in the finest position to nurture that potential.” Collins, who plays as an all-rounder, will represent the South and West at the tournament in a series of fifty over and Twenty20 matches. Nearly two hundred youngsters to have acted in previous tournaments have gone on to play county level and fifty have gained full Test honours, with the most recent being Middlesex bowler Steve Finn, who acted in the latest Ashes series. And looking at Collins’ fledgling career, he stands a good chance of joining them. Last season he was the Bucks county side’s leading wicket taker at U17 level and run scorer for the U15s, despite being an U14 player. He will also be included in the MCC honours board after taking 5-34 against them whilst playing for his school, Dr Challoner’s. He was the first player from the school to take a five for versus the MCC as he helped his side claim a comfortable 7 wicket win.Star Cricket 15-year-old dismisses ex-England man
